Yevgeny Zherenkov was detained in the Kemerovo region for drawings of Nazi symbols on city monuments.

In the Kemerovo region, Yevgeny Zherenkov was detained, who, according to law enforcement agencies, was drawing with crayons on the city's "lightning SS" facilities. He was placed in a psychiatric hospital for two months. A protocol was drawn up under Part 1 of Art. 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (propaganda or public display of Nazi paraphernalia or symbols).

In August 1995, 24-year-old Evgeny Zherenkov took hostage four passengers on an intercity bus from Kemerovo to Leninsk-Kuznetsky. Threatening to detonate an improvised explosive device, he demanded that his sisters and mother, who had been deprived of parental rights in 1988 for drunkenness, be brought to him. A few hours later, the mother and sisters were taken to the bus. Then Zherenkov demanded 4,000 dollars, a plane to Moscow, and a foreign correspondent. As a result of negotiations, the hostages were exchanged for pseudo-correspondents, among whom there really was one Englishman and two law enforcement officers. Later, Zherenkov agreed to let Tuleyev, the chairman of the region's legislative assembly, onto the bus. After brief negotiations, Tuleev was able to persuade the terrorist to release all the hostages for a material reward. Zherenkov surrendered to the authorities.

Zherenkov was declared insane and sent by the court for compulsory treatment. Sources
