A human rights activist from Komi was given six years in prison for comments on VKontakte about the governor

The 2nd Western District Military Court found human rights activist from Komi Andrei Ivashev guilty of calls for extremism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) due to comments on VKontakte, reports 7x7.

In addition to the prison term, the judge imposed a fine on the human rights activist in the amount of 100 thousand rubles.

The prosecutor demanded that the activist be sentenced to eight years in prison. Ivashev did not admit his guilt and linked his persecution with human rights activities.

In 2020, Ivashev wrote three comments on the social network, in which the “E” center saw extremism and a call for the murder of the head of Komi, Vladimir Uiba.
