The artist Ilya Kabakov died

Artist Ilya Kabakov died on May 27. This was announced by the Foundation of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. The artist was 89 years old.

As follows from the message, Kabakov died surrounded by loved ones. The funeral will be held in a narrow circle, and a few weeks later a requiem will be organized for everyone.

One of the brightest representatives of Moscow conceptualism, famous for its installations, was born on September 30, 1933 in Dnepropetrovsk. He studied and worked in Moscow, in the late 1980s he moved to the USA. Kabakov’s works “Zhuk” (2008) and “Lux number” (2006) are called the most expensive works of modern Russian art: the first was sold for $ 5.8 million, the second - $ 4.1 million.

Kabakov’s works are in the collections of leading world museums, including the Pompidu (Paris) Center, Hermitage (St. Petersburg), the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the Norway Museum of Modern Art and others. In recent decades, he worked in co -authorship with his wife Emilia. In 2017, an exhibition of Ilya and Emilia Kabakovs was held in the Tate Modern gallery in London "not all will take into the future."
