Pakistan and Cuba did not pay Russia tens of millions of dollars on loans due to Western sanctions

The sanctions imposed on Russia by the countries of the European Union and the USA led to an increase in the overdue debt of Pakistan and Cuba to the Russian Federation, RTVI reports with reference to an explanatory note to the order of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. According to her, since March 2022, the overdue debts of Pakistan increased by $ 30 million, and Cuba - by $ 33 million.

According to the order of Mishustin, which was signed on April 11, 2023 and has not yet been approved by the President of the Russian Federation Putin, these countries will be able to pay their debt in rubles. The total loan debt allocated to Pakistan in 2001 is $ 79.1 million. Cuba debt for nine loans issued to it by Russia from 2006 to 2019 is $ 209 million.

In 2023, the Russian authorities allowed the debts of foreign states to structures that work in debtor countries and did not fall under sanctions. This was done due to the impossibility of interstate calculations of Russia in dollars and euros.
