Turkish police detained about 100 participants in the prides in Istanbul and Izmir

Istanbul police detained at least 50 people after a pride organized by a local LGBT community, reports Reuters. Another 44 people were detained while trying to spend a pride in Izmir. The regional department of Amnesty International reported that at least one person was wounded.

According to Reuters, on June 25, the Istanbul policemen in full equipment blocked access to the truth of the righteousness - the traditional venue of the pride, as well as to Taxim Square. Public transport in this area did not work. As a result, several hundred activists with flags gathered in another place, after which they walked along the streets.

The Al-Juzira TV channel reports that activists from the youth organization Alperen Hearths, associated with the ultra-rational Islamist “Party of the Great Union” (BBP), threatened to disperse the pride. “Even if the state allows them to march, we will not allow them. In any case, we will prevent it, ”the representative of the organization told reporters.

Earlier in June, the mayor of Istanbul Davat Gul warned that any activity that threatens the "traditional family" would be suppressed. For the first time, the city authorities banned the pride in 2015.
