Germany broke off an agreement with Poland on the construction of the Center for the Repair of the Leopard - Handelsblatt tanks transferred to Ukraine

The German authorities broke off an agreement with Poland on the construction of the Leopard tanks on the Polish territory of the Center for repairing Ukraine, reports Handelsblatt, citing its sources. From the point of view of Germany, Poland lays unreasonably large expenses in the contract.

At the same time, the German Ministry of Defense in its official comment said that the final decision has not yet been made and negotiations with the Polish side are still going.

In March, Germany set Ukraine 18 modern Leopard 2A6 tanks, other European partners also reported the supply of their Leopard tanks. However, according to Handelsblatt, out of 14 Leopard 2A4, delivered by Poland, eight required additional repairs.

It was planned to build a repair center for Leopard tanks in Poland, since in this way it would be in close proximity to the Ukrainian border. In April, Germany Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius and his Polish colleague Marius Blashchak signed an agreement on intention to build such a center.

It was assumed that the enterprise would be joint-German concerns Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann will participate in it, and PGZ from Poland. However, according to the sources of Handelsblatt, PGZ called the price, which "is ten times different from the usual."

Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Germany said that the contract with Poland could be concluded, "if it is possible, in the next ten days." Meanwhile, the Leopard 2A5 and 2A6 tanks will be repaired in Germany and, possibly, in Lithuania. In relation to where the Leopard 2A4 will be repaired, uncertainty remains. In April, it was also reported that Rheinmetall will build the Repair Center for Western Military equipment transferred to Ukraine in Romania.
