By the decision of the Hamburg prosecutor’s office, the Federal Republic of Germany, which was considered the case, will return to Russian Ivan Koval a car with the number of the Russian Federation, which was previously confiscated due to sanctions that could incorrectly interpret. This was announced by Deutsche Welle himself.
According to Koval, the case is closed. The reasons for the decision in the notification of customs, which is at the disposal of DW, are not explained.
Earlier, DW reported more than 10 episodes with arrests of cars with Russian numbers. Some of the Russians were traveling through the territory of Germany, they were stopped at the border crossing points or on an autobahn. The German customs stated that the cars of Russian citizens entering Germany would arrest, the answer was published by RBC. According to customs, this is due to the sanctions and the ban on the import into the country of transport, including personal, from the Russian Federation. Then the customs stated that the import of passenger cars from Russia to the European Union is prohibited, and any movement of goods, including a trip by personal transport, falls under the concept of “import”.
However, the lawyers with whom DW spoke said that the cause of the arrest of personal property in Germany was the incorrect interpretation of the legislation. Thus, a lawyer from Frankfurt-on-Maine Serge Bek and a lawyer from Bonn, Alexander Lissem, agreed in a legal conclusion that the official position of the German customs "is too expanding and therefore contradicts the law."
