In Russia, against the Chechen human rights activist Abubakar Yangulbaev, who is already on the federal wanted list on charges of extremism, opened a criminal case under the article on “calls for terrorism” (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
According to the Telegram channel “Caution, News” (Media Ksenia Sobchak), the reason for the persecution was the publication of the activist Telegram channel, which was discovered in March 2023 by employees of the Chechen Countering Extremeism. In it, Yangulbaev expressed the hope that “on May 9, 2022, TNT will be blown up in the same way as on May 9, 2004 exploded” (then the President of Chechnya and Father Ramzan Kadyrov Akhmat Kadyrov died during the explosion at the Dynamo stadium).
At the moment, the record has been deleted, however, the initiation of the case was confirmed by Yangulbaev himself in his Telegram channel:
“A criminal case of terrorism against me has been instituted in Chechnya. <..> When Akhmat Kadyrov was killed, I wished Ramzan Kadyrov the same death. That is, I wanted Ramzan Kadyrov to the fate of his father. Looks like this offended Ramzan. <...> Yes, a toxic comment in which I wanted to hurt a person. And I succeeded.
<...>
They torture us, pursue, threaten to cut off their heads, poison, abduct, make official statements that justify different types of crimes every day, they commit crimes, they are engaged in terrorism, but we are villains. ”
Abubakar Yangulbaev is a human rights activist, the son of a retired federal judge, Sydi Yangulbaev. His mother Zarem Musaev was abducted by Chechen security officials in early 2022, in 2023 the court in Grozny sentenced Musaev to five years and six months in the case of “applying violence to a representative of power” and “fraud”.
