Ukraine nationalized the factory of ex-Senator Kalashnikov. The company's products went to the needs of the Russian VPK

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (VAKS) nationalized the Motordeal-Konotop plant in the Sumy region, owned by Russian ex-Senator Sergei Kalashnikov. According to the SBU, the court granted the lawsuit the Ministry of Justice, based on the materials collected by the special service.

“Motordetal - Konotop” is considered one of the largest plants in Europe for the production of cylinders for automobile, diesel and ship engines. According to the SBU, before the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the plant’s products were delivered to Russia and was used for the needs of the Russian military-industrial complex. In particular, components manufactured in Ukraine were used in the construction of warships.

In relation to Sergei Kalashnikov, the SBU instituted criminal proceedings under the article on financing actions committed with the aim of a violent change in power, changes in the state border of Ukraine.

In May 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law under which the state may confiscate the assets of persons whose actions are damaged by the national security of Ukraine.
