Ivan Safronov was transported from a colony in the Krasnoyarsk Territory

Journalist Ivan Safronov, sentenced to 22 years on charges of “treason,” was transferred from the Krasnoyarsk penal colony IK-7. This was reported in the telegram channel supporting the journalist.

Today, several people who correspond with Safronov through the FSIN-letter system received notification that the journalist was transferred from the colony.

“It is unknown what these changes in the life of Ivan Safronov are connected with. We are trying to find out the reasons for what was happening and the place where he was sent,” the journalist’s supporters said in a statement.

Information about Safronov’s transfer to another colony was also indirectly confirmed by his sister Irina Kovyazina in an interview with the BBC Russian Service. According to her, she had a meeting with her brother scheduled for September 23, but now it will not take place. There is no way to reschedule it, so she will have to sign up for it again.

Previously, in his letters to relatives, Safronov did not indicate that he was expecting a transfer to another institution, the publication clarifies. His last letter from the Krasnoyarsk colony was sent on September 10.

Safronov was transferred to IK-7 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory at the end of February. In September 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced him to 22 years in prison in the case of treason, and also imposed a fine of 500 thousand rubles and restriction of freedom for two years. In August this year, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict.

According to security officials, Safronov allegedly conveyed information about military-technical cooperation, defense and security of Russia.
