President of Poland Andrzej Duda, speaking of a ban on grain imports, compared Ukraine to a drowning man who "can drown a rescue." According to the Polish News Agency, he stated this at a briefing in New York, where he arrived at the UN General Assembly.
“Everyone who tried to save the drowning man knows that the person who drowns is extremely dangerous, he can pull to the depths. They say that the drowning man grabs a straw, but in fact he grabs everything that he can, ”said Duda.
“This is similar to the situation between Poland and Ukraine,” he continued. - Ukraine is under the Russian attack, without a doubt, in a very difficult situation, clutching everything that can. Can I be offended? Of course, you can resent. Do we need to act in such a way as to protect ourselves, so as not to suffer from the drowned man? Of course, we must act in such a way as to protect ourselves from drowning to harm us, because if he does not harm us and drowses us, he will not receive help. Therefore, we must take care of our interests, and we will do it efficiently and decisively. ”
After Russia began a full -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Poland, at the request of the EU, allowed the transit of Ukrainian grain through its territory, but as a result, cheap grain intended for third countries began to buy Polish companies. This caused the discontent of local agricultural products.
In the spring of 2023, Poland, like a number of other EU countries, banned the import of Ukrainian grain. In September, the ban has expired, but Poland, Hungary and Slovakia banned the import of grain already at the level of countries. In response, Ukraine wants to introduce an embargo on Polish products.
