The head of the center named after Gamalei, who developed a vaccine from the Covid-19 Sputnik V, Alexander Ginzburg told Gazeta.ru that with the advent of new strains, this vaccine “stopped protecting completely” and that clinical trials of the updated version are now underway.
According to him, the initial version of the "satellite" defended from the disease since the registration of the vaccine, August 2020, until July 2022. However, starting from the middle of the summer of 2022, when the Omicron Covid-19 Options appeared 1, 2 and 3, the effectiveness of the vaccine fell eight times. When options 4 and 5 appeared, efficiency has fallen already every 20.

Ginzburg claims that the scientists of the Center have prepared new vaccines in the laboratory, spent their employees. Clinical tests of the “satellite V” are carried out based on XBB.1.5, they will end on December 10. In civil circulation, the vaccine is expected in March 2024.

I hope that the Ministry of Health will give permission and it will follow the results of tests for vaccination.
