Military correspondent Andrei "Murz" Morozov shot himself

On February 21, 2024, military correspondent and member of the Northern Military District Andrei (Murz) Morozov shot himself. This happened after the command demanded that he remove one of the posts from the Telegram channel criticizing the conduct of the SVO. Previously, Morozov was attacked by pro-Kremlin journalists for publishing about heavy losses during the storming of Avdeevka.

On February 21, 2024, information appeared in the media about the death of a serviceman and blogger, author of the Telegram channel “They Write to Us from Ioannina,” Andrei Morozov (Murza, Fighting Cat Murza). In his last posts, Morozov wrote about his intention to shoot himself.

As a suicide note, the blogger left a large post in his Telegram channel, where he said that the high command demanded that he delete one of the publications, threatening to deprive the battalion in which he served of supplies. The immediate command called Morozov and also demanded that she be erased. Apparently, this was the reason for the suicide. Most likely, we were talking about a blogger’s post dated February 18, in which he wrote about the large losses of the Russian army during the capture of Avdeevka. For this post, the hosts of the “Soloviev Live” program Armen Gasparyan and Yulia Vityazeva called him a traitor who must be brought to justice.

In his dying post, Morozov also included an appeal addressed to the chief military prosecutor of the Russian Federation, Valery Petrov. In it, he described the state of affairs in his battalion, in particular, the lack of weapons and transport, personnel, lack of rotation, lack of medical care, and also criticized the way command was exercised.

Andrei Morozov became famous in the mid-2000s when he founded the headquarters of the national-Stalinist group “Red Blitzkrieg” . In 2005–2007, he participated in a number of actions, including those of a violent nature; the media wrote about his “tomato” actions against the liberal opposition - he threw tomatoes at Ilya Yashin, the editor-in-chief of Moskovsky Komsomolets Pavel Gusev, and journalist Yulia Latynina.

Morozov was convicted of shelling the United Russia office on Kutuzovsky Prospekt in Moscow in March 2007 (he was released from prison in 2009).

Being one of the ideologists of the “Russian Spring”, in 2014 Morozov went as a volunteer to the south-east of Ukraine to participate in the conflict on the side of the LDPR. Until the beginning of 2015, he served in the August battalion, dealing with communications issues. Later he became a volunteer and co-founder of the New Russia Assistance Coordination Center. Since 2019, he served in the “Ghost” battalion, which was part of the People’s Militia of the LPR, and during the Northern Military District was included in the Russian Armed Forces, then continued serving in another unit.

All this time, Morozov maintained a blog on LiveJournal, and then a Telegram channel. Fully supporting the idea of ​​an armed confrontation with Ukraine, he sharply criticized the way the NWO is being conducted. Morozov was an ally of Igor Strelkov , was a member of his “January 25 Committee” and was awarded the “Defender of Novorossiya” medal, established by Strelkov’s “Novorossiya” movement.
