The Sakhalin court received the second case of a Ukrainian citizen about discrediting the army

A citizen of Ukraine, previously convicted of discrediting the army and attempted murder, will be tried again.

In February 2024, it became known that on January 30, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court received a criminal case against Alexander Vdovichenko, accused under Part 1 of Art. 280.3 of the Criminal Code (repeated discrediting of the use of the Russian armed forces).

There is no information yet about what led to the initiation of this case. However, previously Vdovichenko, a Ukrainian citizen living in Russia since 2013, was already persecuted for discrediting the army - first administratively and then criminally.

First, on June 29, 2022, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court fined him 30 thousand rubles under the administrative article on discrediting the army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code) for a comment on the website Sakh.com.

Then, on December 7, 2022, a criminal case was opened against him under Part 1 of Art. 280.3 CC. The grounds for criminal prosecution then became statements made in a private conversation. On July 21, 2023, the court fined Vdovichenko 150 thousand rubles on this charge. On August 15, he was also convicted of attempted murder: the court sentenced him to six and a half years in prison.
