NATO members at the past summit in Brussels agreed on a new package of assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg, the correspondent of The Insider from Brussels reports.
So, Germany will allocate almost 600 million euros for the purchase of artillery shells. They will be purchased from the Czech Republic. France will put missiles and armored vehicles. The United Kingdom will transfer 10 thousand aircraft. Which ones - Stoltenberg did not specify. But two months ago, at a meeting of the defense ministers of the participating countries, the allies agreed to transfer 1 million drones to Ukraine. Also military assistance in the amount of 188 million in the euro will be transferred to Finland to Ukraine.
They do not believe in NATO that the conflict in Ukraine can develop into a clash of Russia with an alliance, Stoltenberg emphasized, but called for increasing support to Ukraine.
“We need to make our support even more firm and long -term. Yesterday, NATO countries agreed to continue planning to strengthen the role of NATO in coordinating the necessary assistance in the field of security and training for Ukraine. NATO is not a side of the conflict, and NATO will not be a side of the conflict. But NATO provides support to Ukraine to help her protect herself. And we just need to remember again and again what it is: it is one country, and Russia invades another country, moves forces, combat tanks, planes, missiles across the border to take control of Ukraine. And this is a gross violation of international law. This is a full -scale invasion. This is exactly what happened on February 24th. In fact, two scenarios are possible. Firstly, NATO allies will be able to mobilize more support, and Ukraine will be able to regain more territories for themselves. And another scenario is that we cannot do this. And then there is a real risk that Russia will capture even more territories, and we will find ourselves in an even more dangerous position. ”
According to Stoltenberg, ministers were supposed to discuss the creation of a new special fund for assistance to Ukraine with a budget of 100 billion euros. However, so far this decision has not been made. And the Secretary General of NATO himself does not reveal any details.
