Russian and US citizen Russell Bentley, who fought for the DPR, died in Donetsk

A citizen of Russia and the United States, Russell Bentley, who in the past fought on the side of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and was known under the call sign "Texas", died in Donetsk. Propagandist Margarita Simonyan reported this.

As Bentley’s wife Lyudmila stated , her husband was detained by servicemen from one of the Russian army units in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk. It was reported that the American disappeared on April 8 after he found himself “close to the area of ​​shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces” and “decided to go find out if his help was needed by the wounded.”

Bentley came to Donbass in 2014 and joined pro-Russian separatists who were fighting against Ukraine. There he married, converted to Orthodoxy and received Russian citizenship.

The American publication Texas Monthly said that in the past Bentley was a military engineer and served in Germany. He was found guilty of smuggling and selling drugs in the United States and hid from the authorities for some time. In the early 1990s, he tried to run for the US Senate.
