Residents of the Perm microdistrict opposed the construction of a mosque

On May 14, 2024, it became known that residents of the Perm microdistrict of Verkhnyaya Kurya opposed the construction of the mosque. They fear an influx of migrants and a worsening crime situation.

Residents of the microdistrict addressed the governor of the Perm Territory with a corresponding video message. Opponents of the construction claim that in the microdistrict “the population is only Christian” : “They will build a mosque. They will give confidence to migrants, they will come here, even those who are not particularly religious, they will ensure that this is their center of religion. Not the best representatives of these nations will come and will simply create chaos. We don't even have a police department here. Our district police officer is through the Kama."

In addition, local residents believe that in Upper Kurya there are not enough places for children’s activities - clubs, playgrounds, and it would be more appropriate to organize the appropriate infrastructure instead of building a mosque.

The initiator of the construction of the mosque was Ruslan Ibragimov, the son of Perm businessman Rivkhat Ibragimov, the owner of a plot on Verkhne-Kurinskaya Street. He registered a charitable foundation to promote the construction of the Yunus Mosque.

Ibragimov plans to build a two-story mosque with two minarets 44 meters high in the microdistrict, designed for 200 people, but this requires changing the purpose of the site to “religious use.”

The mosque project is available for public discussion until May 17 on the public portal of the Perm Urban Planning Information System.
