The United States began to withdraw their contingent from Niger, said the chief of staff of the Ground Forces of the Republic, Colonel Maman Sanya Kiau. His words are given by TASS, quoting the Afrique Média channel:

“The United States officially began to withdraw its troops from Niger. 269 ​​military personnel and 946 tons of military equipment have already left our country. ”

About a month ago, the United States agreed to withdraw all their military contingent from Niger. It was about more than a thousand American troops. As The Washington Post noted, such a solution called into question the status of an American air base built in Niger six years ago for $ 110 million.

In early May, the Russian military entered the territory of the air base, where the American soldiers were located. This was the result of the decision of the Niger junta to expel the American armed forces from the country. After some time, the United States informed Niger's authorities about the consent to the request for the withdrawal of the US military.

In mid -March, Niger's authorities canceled the 2012 agreement on military cooperation with the United States, announcing that it was “imposed” by Washington. Last week, Burkina-Faso, Mali and Niger-the African countries under the control of the military junta-finally agreed on plans to create a confederation, turning for support to Russia and stopping relations with France.
