The leaders of the G7 countries agreed to provide Ukraine with $ 50 billion by frozen Russian assets by the end of the year, AFP reports with reference to a source in the President of France.
This statement was made on the eve of the Big Seven summit in Italy, which will be held on Thursday and will be devoted to the support of the struggle of Kyiv against Russian aggression.
The G7 leaders have been trying to agree on a long time to use profit from frozen assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation with an amount of € 300 billion to help Ukraine. Now it is planned to take $ 50 billion from these funds, and then in the future to repay this loan at the expense of income from the rest. According to AFP source, "initially it was an American initiative."
At the same time, he noted that if, for some reason, Russian assets are defrosted or income from them is not enough to finance the loan, "we will have to consider how to distribute the overall load on it."
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that now the promises of the supply of weapons to Ukraine, which are made by members of the Alliance, will cease to be a personal file of each of the countries and will become the obligations made within him.
