IDF confirms death of one of the organizers of the October 7 attacks on Israel, Mohammed Deif, after an Israeli strike on him

The IDF Spokesperson's Office has confirmed the death of Mohammed Deif, one of the organizers of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the leader of the group's military wing. The strike on an area in the Gaza Strip where senior Hamas leaders were staying, according to the Israeli military, took place on July 13. The group itself has not confirmed Deif's death.

Israel has been searching for Mohammed Deif since the 1990s, and he has been the subject of at least seven assassination attempts, leaving him seriously injured. An airstrike targeting him in 2014 killed his wife and young son and daughter. On October 7, 2023, he called on Palestinians and Arab citizens to join the attack on Israel.
