The first shelter was installed in Penza, the local department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region reported . The publication states that it is intended to protect the population in the event of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. A shelter has been installed on the embankment of the Sura River, this is a place of mass gathering of people. It is noted that a total of five such shelters will be installed in the city - they “have proven themselves well in the Belgorod region.”
Penza is located more than 600 kilometers from the territory controlled by Ukraine. However, it still falls within the declared operational range of the most popular Ukrainian strike drone “Lyuty”, which is 1000 km. Such UAVs are constantly used to attack Russian territory. At the same time, it is worth noting that drone attacks on the Penza region have not yet been reported (unlike, for example, the Murmansk region and Bashkortostan, which are even further away from Ukraine).
Regarding missile strikes: even if Western countries allow long-range missiles to be fired at the internationally recognized territory of Russia, none of them will be able to reach Penza, since their range is limited to 300 km, and the distance from Penza to territory controlled by Ukraine exceeds 600 km .
