Bryansk: another “citizen of the USSR” has been sentenced

In Bryansk, a court sentenced a resident of Bryansk, found guilty of membership in a banned organization of “citizens of the USSR,” to 2 years in prison.

On September 27, 2024, the Sovetsky District Court of Bryansk passed a verdict under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an extremist organization).

In the dock was a 46-year-old local resident who, according to law enforcement agencies, was a member of the banned Bryansk cell of “citizens of the USSR” (banned under the name “Union of Slavic Forces of Russia” (“USSR”) and recognized by the court as extremist).

It is reported that the person involved in the case participated in meetings of the “USSR”, at which, among other things, issues of changing the foundations of the constitutional system and violating the integrity of the Russian Federation, obstructing the legitimate activities of state bodies, local governments and other organizations were discussed, and also agitated other persons against participation in a prohibited organization.

The defendant did not admit guilt, but the court sided with the prosecution and sentenced the man to 2 years in a general regime colony with a probationary period of 6 months.

Let us recall that in March of this year in Bryansk, the case against five members of the “USSR” cell was transferred to the Sovetsky District Court. Probably the person involved in the case is one of these five. Earlier, in June 2023, the same court sentenced five more members of the “USSR” cell in the Bryansk region. The sentence came into force in January of this year.

"USSR" was created by dentist Sergei Taraskin in 2010. The ideology of the movement is based on the belief that the Soviet Union never collapsed, therefore the current government in Russia should be recognized as illegitimate (for more information about the “Union of Slavic Forces of Russia” see here ). In July 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the Union of Slavic Forces of Rus' (USSR) as an extremist organization.
