Sentenced for attempting to join LSR

Yaroslav Rechkalov was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On September 27, 2024, the First Western District Military Court sentenced car mechanic Yaroslav Rechkalov under Part 2 of Art. 205.5 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization). He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, two of which he will spend in prison, and the remaining eight years in a maximum security correctional colony.

According to the court, Rechkalov contacted a member of the “Freedom of Russia” Legion, which is recognized as terrorist in Russia, via an Internet messenger. A member of LSR under the pseudonym “Kaluga” gave instructions on the procedure for joining the organization. No later than May 20, 2024, in the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg, Rechkalov joined the LSR. He took the oath on video and sent the video to a legion representative.

“Before his arrest, the defendant, having a real opportunity to stop participating in the activities of the specified terrorist organization, did not voluntarily stop his participation in its activities and did not submit a corresponding report to the authorities,” the press service reports.
