In the Omsk region, migrants were banned from working in seven industries

The authorities of the Omsk region decided to ban migrants with labor patents from working in seven sectors of the economy. This was stated by the regional governor Vitaly Khotsenko.

Migrants will be prohibited from working in the following industries:

• education,
• healthcare,
• passenger transportation,
• trade,
• hunting,
• production of medicines,
• provision of social services.

The governor's order will take effect on March 1, 2025.

In the Irkutsk region, migrants were also banned from working in taxis, trade and education. Earlier, the head of the Uzbek national center and the deputy chairman of the Tajik diaspora were detained there. The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, signed a decree that spelled out restrictions on the types of activities for foreigners who work on the basis of patents.

Restrictions on the work of migrants have been introduced in a third of Russian regions. Most often they are prohibited from working in taxis. At least 18 regions have imposed restrictions on the work of foreigners in the trade sector: it is prohibited to trade in alcohol, tobacco and food, and a little less often - bread, fruit and wood. In some regions, migrants are also unable to work in the hotel business, catering, libraries, or even in financial services.

At the end of 2023, Russian authorities stepped up checks on migrants. In November, security forces doubled the number of raids to search for foreigners who had received Russian passports and did not want to go to war. In December, Vladimir Putin said that Russia needs a separate body for migration affairs.
