The reason for the cancellation, he said, was an “accident” as a result of which he injured his head in the occipital area. The president's office did not disclose details of the injury, but said that doctors advised the Brazilian president not to go on long trips.

Earlier, at a meeting with media heads of the BRICS countries, President Vladimir Putin announced that he would not go to the G20 summit in Brazil in 2024. According to Putin, his appearance at the summit site would disrupt the normal functioning of the forum. Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the decision of the Brazilian President not to come to the BRICS summit in Kazan is not related to Putin’s refusal to go to the G20 in Rio de Janeiro.
The BRICS summit will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. According to Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, the summit will be attended by representatives of 32 countries, 24 of which will be represented by state leaders.
