Britain imposed sanctions against a major supplier of machine tools for the defense industry after an investigation by The Insider

The UK has imposed sanctions against the Sverdlovsk company Unimatic. Previously, The Insider published an investigation about it: it is a major supplier of machine tools for the Russian defense industry. At the same time, the company itself successfully cooperated with European partners.

The owner of Unimatik is 37-year-old Oleg Fishelev. The shares were transferred to him in 2018 by his father Igor Fishelev, who then became the chairman of the board of directors of the enterprise. As The Insider discovered, Fishelev Sr. owns Arpack UK Limited in London. In 2022, during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he began to appear in the company’s documents as a British citizen.

On November 7, British authorities added to the sanctions list members of several Russian military formations operating in Ukraine and African countries, as well as GRU officer Denis Sergeev, who was involved in the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal. According to the card on the British government website, “Sergeev was involved in the preparation and use of the Novichok chemical weapon in Salisbury on March 4, 2018, and had a coordinating role in London the weekend of the attack.”

In addition, at the end of October, 11 companies from The Insider investigations were subject to US sanctions. These are Russian and foreign suppliers of components for the Russian military-industrial complex, including microcircuits for the Caliber and Kinzhal missiles .
