In Nizhny Novgorod, a teacher was fined for depicting a rainbow flag in her school office

The Volodarsky District Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region fined Alina Belyaeva, a teacher of Russian language and literature, a thousand rubles, against whom a report was drawn up for promoting “extremist” symbols because of the rainbow flag. The Guys+ project drew attention to this.

The report states that during work hours, the woman placed in the school office an image of the “LGBT flag” consisting of six stripes of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Thus, according to the prosecution, the teacher “propagated the symbols of an extremist organization,” to which the Russian authorities include the non-existent “international LGBT movement.”

In court, Belyaeva explained that she had created a “tolerance corner” in her office, since the school was celebrating Tolerance Month. The teacher had no intention of “promoting LGBT people,” the court decision says.

Earlier it became known that a student at Moscow State University in Moscow was fined half a million rubles for “LGBT propaganda” because of photographs published on social networks in 2019.
