Human rights activist Sergei Davidis, head of the human rights organization Memorial, was added to the list of extremists and terrorists. This follows from the register of “terrorists and extremists”, to which the human rights activist was added with a corresponding note.
He was added to the list with an asterisk - as a terrorist. There was no previously known criminal case against the human rights activist.
In a conversation with The Insider, Davidis noted that he knew nothing about the case. There is no information yet about what article the case was opened under and what was the reason for it:
“Unfortunately, I do not know what served as the basis for including me on the list of terrorists. Of course, I, like many others who were included, was surprised by this because I never supported terrorism, but I understand, having professionally studied modern political repression, that the very use of the label “terrorism” only means that the Russian state does not approve of what I do or I say,” he said.
Davidis left Russia after the start of a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. On March 1, 2024, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation included him in the list of “foreign agents” as a member of the Memorial Center for the Protection of Human Rights. In September, he was fined 30 thousand rubles for failure to comply with the requirements for indicating the appropriate labeling.
