Elon Musk became the first person in history whose fortune reached $400 billion, Bloomberg writes . Of the latter, the growth of assets was influenced by the sale of shares of his company SpaceX, which in one fell swoop increased Musk’s fortune by about $50 billion to $439.2 billion.
However, the greatest impact on Musk's fortune was the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential election. Musk is set to play a key role in the new administration as co-head of the newly created Department of Government Effectiveness, giving him the ability to speak from the podium in Washington and speak directly to the Oval Office.
After the election, Tesla Inc. shares rose about 65%, fueled by expectations that Trump would streamline the rollout of self-driving cars and end tax breaks for electric vehicles. The value of Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI has more than doubled since its last investment in May, reaching $50 billion. The Wall Street Journal previously wrote that Trump's victory also contributed to this.
On Wednesday, December 11, SpaceX and its investors agreed to purchase $1.25 billion worth of shares from employees and other company insiders. The deal will make SpaceX the most valuable private startup in the world (according to Bloomberg, the company is valued at $350 billion). SpaceX makes most of its money from contracts with the US government and can likely count on significant support under the Trump administration.
