Donald Trump prohibited placing transgender women in women's prisons and centers of detention, as well as pay for medical procedures related to the transgender transition to prisoners from the federal budget. These orders were included in the document signed by the President of the United States entitled “Protection of Women from Extremism of Gender Ideology and the Restoration of Biological Truth”.

The document states that state authorities must take measures “to ensure that intimate spaces intended for women, girls or female faces (or for men, boys or men's people) were indicated on the basis of gender, not identity” .

According to The New York Times, the organization Women's Liberation Front (“Women's Front of Liberation”) called Trump’s decree “Big Victory”. This organization disputes the law in force in California, according to which prisoners may demand placement in prison according to their gender identity, and not established at birth of the floor. Activists argue that such a law violates the constitutional rights of women-confused, namely the right to protect against cruel or non-standard punishment.

Defenders of the rights of transgender people, in turn, criticized the order, saying that the placement of transgender women in men's prisons endanates their danger. “This policy will lead to rape and physical attacks. This will also complicate the situation for prison officials who are now entitled to act at their own discretion in order to ensure security in institutions, ”said NYT Shannon Minter, a representative of the National Center for Protection of Lesbian Rights, which also protects prisoner prisoners.

According to the Federal Bureau of prisons, at present, American prisons contain about 1,500 prisoners identifying themselves as transgender women. Transgens account for 15% of all prisoners in women's prisons. At the same time, there are 750 transgender men for 144 thousand men, male males.
