In Belarus, they limited access to the Internet on the eve of the presidential election. Hoster hosting provider said that from January 25 to 27, access to Belarusian sites from abroad will be blocked by decision of the operational and analytical center under the president of the country. This is due to certain threats of information infrastructure. As a result, users outside Belarus will not be able to go to some sites, and inside the country their work may slow down.

The changes affected the resources located on inexpensive virtual hosting. Usually these are sites of small firms or organizations, but sometimes large, which do not require complex server solutions. In addition, in Belarus there were problems with access to foreign platforms, including Twitch, Steam, Reddit and Telegram, as well as VPN services. For an hour and a half, access to Wikipedia was disconnected, but later it recovered.

Presidential elections in the country are scheduled for Sunday. Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power for almost three decades, is running for the seventh period. Two of his four rivals have already recognized his victory. During the 2020 elections, accompanied by protests, the Internet was disconnected throughout the country. Lukashenko later admitted that he made such decisions personally and was ready to repeat them in case of new mass performances.
