The Ministry of Information of Belarus has updated the list of printed publications, the distribution of which can cause “harm to national interests”. 30 items were added to the black list, including the novel by Hanya Yanagihara “Little Life” and Roman Chuck Palanik “Lullaby”, as well as non-fiction, the book of journalist Anne Applum “Gulag”. From the moment of entering the list to sell books that got there, it is impossible.
The black list appeared at the end of November 2024. Then they banned: the three parts of the manga “Tokyo Goul” of Sui Isis, the unfinished novel by the Marquis de Sad “120 days of Sodom”, the book “Intimate Rus'”. Life without house -building, sin, love and witchcraft ”by Natalia Seregina and Nadezhda Adamovich, the novel“ Summer in the Pioneer Tie ”Katerina Silvanova and Elena Malisova, as well as his continuation -“ What a Swallow is silent ”.
In early January 2025, the Russian publishing house Eksmo removed from the sale the book “Children of Irene” by Canadian writer Tilar Mazceo about the participant in the Polish resistance movement during World War II, Irene Sendler. The authors complained about the book known by serial denunciations of the pro-government Telegram channel “Cultural Front Z ”. Denunciation actively distributed large Z-bloggers.
In November 2024, it became known that the State Duma Committee on the protection of the family called on the government to develop measures against the distribution of "destructive children's literature" in Russia. The head of the committee Nina Ostanina even wrote a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. She brought references to the study of the Russian Writers Union, in which, on the basis of studying 930 children's books available on sale, it was stated that about 60% of these books “strictly correspond” to five “destructive areas” that form “negative attitudes in the minds of children”.
