In 2023, the Russian authorities spent 600 rubles per day on the maintenance of one prisoner in the colony, and 624 rubles on the maintenance of one prisoner in jail. Such data were published in the FSIN Research Institute of Research Institute, the project “to be precise” paid attention to the publication.

As noted, 70% of 600 rubles is spent on the wages of staff, 27% - on food, clothing, utilities and medical services, the rest - depreciation of buildings and equipment. Thus, about 75 rubles per day is spent on the food of one prisoner. For comparison, the basic food basket, according to the Romir Foundation, at the end of 2022 cost about 127 rubles a day.

As the lawyer Pyotr Khromov explains, the fact that most of this money goes to the wages of the staff is explained by the bloated state: “The operative is assigned to each detachment. He works a day through three, has the right to preferential retirement, as well as surcharges for secrecy and complexity, says Khromov. - There is also an educational department, employees of the psychological service and social workers. The latter prisoners often do not see. ” The low cost of food, in his opinion, is explained by the fact that some of the FSIN produces itself - at its own factories and in farms that are independent of the free market.

It is noteworthy that the article in which the FSIN revealed data on expenses on prisoners is devoted to another issue - the deportation of foreigners and stateless persons who committed crimes in Russia. Separately, the FSIN has never published the data on how much money is allocated to provide prisoners.
