On the territory of Russia, the BestChange website, an aggregator of cryptocurrency exchangers, was blocked. This was announced by the human rights project "Roskomsvoboda", which monitors the situation with the blocking of Internet resources.
The reasons for the blocking remain unclear, since the register of prohibited sites does not indicate which department initiated the decision. The blocking could be made at the request of some state bodies, for example, the General Prosecutor's Office, which sometimes can carry out such actions without a court decision, hiding its information in the register.
Representatives of BestChange reported that their legal team is already dealing with the issue of unlocking the site. They also recommended their users to switch to the mirror version of the site to continue using cryptocurrency exchange services.
From 2017 to 2020, the courts in several Russian regions made decisions on the blocking of BestChange and other platforms related to cryptocurrency operations. These decisions were justified by the fact that the cryptocurrency “is not provided by the real cost” and can be used to launder money or financing terrorist activities. However, then the locks were appealed, and the court decisions were canceled, as a result of which access to the site was restored.
