Putin promised Trump mediation in negotiations with Iran - Bloomberg

The US presidential administration Donald Trump asked Russia to assist in establishing communications with Iran on a number of issues, including the Nuclear Program of the Islamic Republic and the support of regional anti -American groups. According to them, Donald Trump personally discussed this issue with Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation in February. Later, high -ranking representatives of the American administration touched on this topic in negotiations with Russian colleagues in Saudi Arabia.

Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov, answering Bloomberg questions, said that "Russia believes that the United States and Iran should solve all problems through negotiations" and that Moscow "is ready to do everything possible to achieve this goal." The representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmail Bagai, commenting on the issue of the possible mediation of Russia, only noted that "naturally, countries offer assistance if it is necessary."

From the moment of taking office about six weeks ago, Trump has been trying to restore relations with Putin, which the United States has broken after a full -scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine in 2022. While the American president seeks to resolve this conflict directly with the Russian leader without the participation of the Ukrainian side, both Moscow and Washington signal the readiness to cooperate on other geopolitical issues, including trade routes and resources in the Arctic.

The American Alexander Filippenko, in an interview with The Insider, noted that there are several reasons to attract Russia to the US negotiations with Iran:

“The first is a desire to involve Russia in as many levels of interaction with the United States as possible to tear it from China. Yes, China has ties with the Middle East, but not like Russia. Trump believes that the Russian Federation does not pose a threat to the United States from either economic or any other point of view, except for the possibility of using nuclear weapons. The second is the close relations of Russia with Iran, primarily in the military sense.
