The number of domestic violence, who committed suicide in England and Wales, for the second year in a row exceeded the number of people killed by their partner. This is stated in a new report prepared with the support of the UK police.
According to him, over the past year, 98 people have allegedly committed suicide after an experienced violence. For the same period, 80 people were killed by their partner.
In addition, from April 2020 to March 2024, 1012 deaths associated with domestic violence were recorded in the UK. Almost half of them are murders committed by partners. The rest are other adult family members.
During the same period, about 354 people faced with domestic violence committed suicide. Most of the dead are women.
Julie Divi, the head of the Killed Women initiative group, who also participated in the preparation of the report, proposed to oblige the police to check the availability in the case of domestic violence for every unexpected case of death.
“For too long, such deaths have been considered“ inevitable tragedy ”, but this is not so. They could be prevented, ”Divi said.
