Harvard University appealed to the Boston Federal Court with a lawsuit against the presidential administration Donald Trump, accusing the US government of illegally freezing federal funding in the amount of $ 2.2 billion. This is stated in the official statement of Harvard President Alan Garber.

The US authorities explained the suspension of financing by the need to answer anti -Semitic speeches, which, in their opinion, took place on the territory of the campus. However, Garber called such a motivation unreasonable and said that the university accepts the problem seriously and will continue to fight any manifestations of hatred: “We fully fulfill our obligations under the law. This is not only our legal liability. This is our moral duty. ”

The defendants in the case indicate a number of government officials and agencies. Meanwhile, the representative of the White House Harrison Fields said that “taxpayers are a privilege,” and accused the university of non -compliance with the “main conditions necessary for access to this privilege”.

On April 11, the Trump administration sent a letter to Harvard demanding to carry out reforms-in particular, to reduce the influence of activist teachers, tighten students' selection and transfer the police about violators with a green card.
