The international group of scientists, including researchers from the Higher School of Economics, interviewed more than 10 thousand people from 43 countries and compiled a rating of the features of the perfect partner. The results showed how much the ideas about the ideal satellite coincide with the real choice, and how this is due to satisfaction with the relationship, reports the popular science publication Naked Science.
The results of the study were published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. It is noted that scientists wanted to check the hypothesis of conformity, according to which satisfaction in romantic relations depends on how the real partner meets our ideas about the ideal - including intelligence, a sense of humor, appearance and other features.

The survey was attended by 10,358 respondents, including from Russia. The participants were asked to indicate what features they consider most important in an ideal partner, and then apply the same criteria to their real partner. Those who were in a relationship described their current partner, and the free person - a real person with whom they would like to be in a romantic relationship. Based on the survey, scientists compiled two ratings - the desired features of the ideal partner and qualities that people most value in their real satellites.
The study showed that the declared and actually identified preferences in many respects coincide, at the same time there are noticeable discrepancies between them. So, qualities like “confident”, “good listener”, “patient” and “calm” participants more often indicated in the list of ideal features, but rarely called them, describing their real partners. At the same time, such a quality as a “good lover” took first place in the rating of the advantages of real partners, while in the list of the features of the perfect satellite was only in 12th place in popularity. Also, such features as “attractive”, “sexy”, “beautiful body” and “smells” were underestimated.

At the same time, scientists also found that men and women tend to underestimate or overestimate different features of their partners. Women seriously overestimate such qualities as “ambitiousness” and “financial security”, and men underestimate such features as “attractiveness”, “beautiful body” and “sexuality”.
