In 2025, the US presidential administration Donald Trump asked the Ukrainian government to accept an “indefinite number” of illegal migrants deported from the United States. It is reported by The Washington Post with reference to documents that were at the disposal of the editorial office and sources in Kiev.
Judging by these documents, similar proposals were sent to a number of other countries. It is not clear from the documents that WP referred to, how they reacted in Kyiv to this idea. Two Ukrainian officials, familiar with this issue, on the terms of anonymity stated that he was never discussed at the highest level.
According to the publication, proposals directed to different countries contained various incentives to accept deported from the United States. In particular, Rwanda of the United States paid $ 100 thousand at a time for the reception of one deported Iraqz, and later Rwanda agreed to accept 10 more deported different nationalities. In the case of Uzbekistan, American officials proposed organizing a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries or another interaction at a high level if Uzbekistan agrees to accept Russian and Belarusian citizens in order to further send them to their homeland in the absence of direct air communication with the United States. However, in Uzbekistan they immediately abandoned this idea.
