The former Belarusian political prisoner Yuri Zenkovich told in an interview with our NIVA that he spent several months in the KGB investigative in the same cell with Vasily Veremeichik, a former fighter of the Kastuya Kalinovsky Belorussian Regiment, who was fighting on the side of Ukraine. According to the former cellmate, the security forces tortured Veremeychik to make him give an interview to the Belarusian state television channel.

“What he said in an“ interview ”was forced ... do not believe what propaganda shows: all these interviews are taken under the threat of violence,” Zenkovich emphasized. An interview with the Veremeichik was shown on the Belarus 1 television channel in January 2025.

Vasily Veremeychik was detained in November in Vietnam and extradited to Belarus. The coordination council of the Belarusian opposition was then said that Veremychik left for Vietnam, since he was closed to the entrance to both Ukraine and the European Union: “At the request of the headquarters of the Kalinovsky regiment, with which the fighters had a conflict, the Main Directorate of Ukraine closed Vasily to enter Ukraine. Later, the Lithuanian government forbade him to enter the European Union. ”

Activist Yuri Zenkovich, a citizen of Belarus and the USA, was detained in April 2021 and sentenced to 11 years in prison on charges of "conspiracy to seize power." He was released in April 2025 as a result of negotiations of the American authorities with the Lukashenko regime.
