The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the founder of Medusa Galina Timchenko - she is accused of participating in the activities of an “unwanted organization”, TASS reports with reference to the Investigative Committee.
“A criminal case has been instituted against Galina Timchenko. She is suspected of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (the organization of the activities of a foreign or international organization, in respect of which a decision was made to recognize its activities undesirable in the territory of the Russian Federation), ”the department said.
Galina Timchenko is the founder and former editor -in -chief of Medusa, an independent Russian -speaking publication based in Latvia. Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 3 involves punishment up to six years in prison.
On January 26, 2023, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office included the Medusa publication in the list of undesirable organizations, saying that its activity “poses a threat to the basics of the constitutional system and security of the Russian Federation”. This decision actually forbade Medusa to conduct any activity in Russia and interact with Russian citizens.
