A little earlier, in January 2024, 11 journalists from another anti -corruption project of Kyrgyzstan - Temirov Live were arrested. Then also detained former project employees. Director of Mahabat Tazibek Kyzy received six years in prison, journalist Azamat Ishshenbekov - five, they were accused of calling for riots and active disobedience to the legal requirements of representatives of the authorities. The accusations were based on video materials published on the channels of Temirov Live and Ait Ait REE, in which the investigation saw calls for violence and riots. However, lawyers and international human rights organizations note that journalists were actually punished for the implementation of their professional activities - for covering cases of corruption in the country.
In April 2025, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov pardoned Azamat Izhenbekov. Mahabat Tazhibek Kyzy remains in conclusion, despite the numerous calls of the international community to free it.
The Kloop investigations brought the reputation of one of the leaders of independent journalism in Central Asia and became a reason for large -scale repressions against its journalists.
In the investigation of “clans, corruption and smuggling on the Silk Road”, Kloop journalists, together with OCCRP and Azattyk radio, found out how senior officials and criminal structures brought hundreds of millions of dollars from the country through customs schemes. One of the key figures of the scheme were members of the family of the former deputy head of the State Customs Service Rambek Matraimov. Matraimov ensured the work of the smuggling empire, controlled by a certain businessman from China, and made a profit from this. Over the years, he and his brothers, who still occupy high posts and whose hands literally kiss , have accumulated huge funds with which they affect the most important processes in the country.
Journalists revealed that more than $ 700 million was withdrawn through Matrimov schemes. The investigation caused a wide public outcry and became the reason for mass protests in Kyrgyzstan, requiring corruption and hold guilty.
Kloop systematically described the course of the case of Aziz Batukaev - the criminal authority of Chechen origin, a thief in the law that was serving a sentence in colony No. 19 in Naryn for storing weapons, drugs and participation in riots.
In April 2013, Batukaev was ahead of schedule from prison under the pretext of mortal illness - he allegedly had the last stage of leukemia. He immediately flew to Chechnya on a private plane, and later it turned out that medical conclusions about his illness were falsified. The investigation claimed that the release was organized with the knowledge and with the participation of high -ranking officials. Among the defendants was the former president of the country Almazbek Atambayev, who, as a result of this case, was deprived of inviolability and arrested. Read more in the material ““ Batukaev is black, and we are red ”. The history of the liberation of the thief in law, as it is presented in the materials of the criminal case against the former president of Kyrgyzstan. ”
This is a series of journalistic investigations dedicated to abuses in the election campaigns of Kyrgyzstan. The publications highlight cases of bribery of voters, the use of an administrative resource and other violations affecting the honesty of elections.
In the Samaragate investigation, Kloop, together with the Swedish digital forensics from Qurium, found that the Samara.kg website used to manage the campaign of a pro -government candidate was located on the government server.
Kloop also covered the activities of the so -called “troll factories”, which were used to promote certain political parties and candidates in social networks, as well as to discredit opponents. One of the materials describes how the party “Meckenim Kyrgyzstan” used an automated troll factory to influence public opinion during the 2020 parliamentary elections.
