Axios: Israel has prepared an operation against Iran for eight months with a “clear green signal” from the United States

Over the past decades, the largest military operation against Iran called the “people like a lion” secretly prepared Israel for eight months, Axios reports with reference to Israeli officials.

According to Axios interlocutors, the Israeli authorities decided to start preparing for a large -scale attack after the Iranian Corps of the Islamic Revolution Guardians (KSIR) launched ballistic missiles around the country on October 1, 2024. The Times of Israel wrote that there were 180 missiles in total. Both the USA and Israel promised that the attack on Israel would have serious consequences for Tehran.

Two Israeli officials told Axios that the IDF was preparing for the operation (collected intelligence and conducting exercises) with the consent of Washington, despite the fact that publicly US President Donald Trump sought a nuclear transaction with Iran. The next round of negotiations was scheduled in Oman on Sunday, June 15.

According to Axios sources, in private Trump and his assistants did not express their disagreement. “We had a clear green signal from the United States,” one of them added.

The publication calls the operation “people like a lion” “the beginning of a new war in the Middle East, which destroyed all hopes for a nuclear transaction and can draw a USA.”

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Israel had an attack on Iran unilaterally. Netanyahu’s assistants also told Israeli journalists that Trump was trying to stop the Israeli blow in a telephone conversation on Monday, but in fact the conversation concerned coordination before the attack, Axios notes. The degree of intelligence, logistics and defensive support from the United States has yet to be appreciated, journalists add.

On the night of June 13, the IDF struck dozens of facilities in Iran, including the underground nuclear center in Natanze, missile bases in Kermanshah and Horman, as well as on Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and other large Iranian cities. At least six nuclear physicists were killed during the blows (there were 25 scientists, Axios notes the target), as well as at least 20 high-ranking KSIR commanders, Reuters reported , including the commander of the KSIR Hossein Salah, the head of the General Staff of the Iran of the Armed Forces Mohammad Bageri and the commander of the aerospace forces of Ksir Amir Alii Hajizade. The Iranian authorities also reported victims among the civilian population.

The attacks continued on the afternoon of June 13 - as a result, the Uranus enrichment plant in Natanze was seriously injured.

On the eve of the operation, the IDF Council of Management of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the first time in 20 years officially recorded the fact of Iran’s non -compliance with nuclear obligations - in particular, the traces of Uranus at objects that are not declared as nuclear ones. The resolution could launch a mechanism for restoring the UN sanctions against the country. After that, the Iranian authorities said that they would launch the third center for the enrichment of Uranus “in a safe place” (in addition to those available in Natanze and Fordo) and replace centrifuges of the first generation of IR-1 at an underground plant in Fordo with more productive IR-6.
