According to Fontanka, investigators are interested in what orders Vladimir Kekhman , director of the Moscow Art Theater and artistic director of the Mikhailovsky Theater, could have given while under recognizance not to leave in the embezzlement case. On July 9, Kekhman’s place was also searched. Then he was charged with embezzlement.

As Kommersant wrote, the investigative actions also affected several commercial organizations involved in the renovation of theaters, which were led by Kekhman at different times. According to investigators, the tenders for the work were won by the same companies, and the estimates were allegedly inflated. The investigation is being conducted by the central offices of the Investigative Committee and the FSB.

Kekhman is a famous St. Petersburg businessman. He headed the Mikhailovsky Theater in 2007, later headed the Novosibirsk Opera House, and in 2021 became director of the Moscow Art Theater. After Kekhman arrived at the theater, entrepreneur and producer Eduard Boyakov and writer Zakhar Prilepin, loyal to the current Russian regime, were removed from work there.
