They talked about female orgasm, blowjob and cunnilingus, and Russians learned to use condoms. Why was it closed?

In 1997, Leonid Parfyonov, a popular host who was soon to become the main producer of the NTV television channel, flew to New York to meet with a woman who was going to return to Russia.
The young Russian television then experienced a heyday, it was believed that anything could be done on it-and he came up with a program whose analogues were still not in the country: a talk show about sex. Parfenov wanted a journalist to be the presenter of this show, who worked in the Moscow News newspaper several years ago, and then left for the USA: 35-year-old Elena Hanga, daughter of a Soviet researcher of Africa and former Prime Minister Zanzibar.

Hanga was not going to return to Russia: she studied at a therapist and already chose a clinic where she wanted to work. But, as she recalls, Parfyonov said : “God, what a boredom. How can you live such a life? Move to Moscow. It will be fun there. ” Hanga retells their conversation: she listened to Parfenov’s words that on Russian television is a “revolutionary situation”, that now is the only suitable moment to make such a bold transmission that it will be a “brain gap”. And she thought : “Well, brain break is interesting. It is worth trying a brain gap. ”
Since then, she constantly flew through the ocean and back to record the issues of a new program, which was given the name "about this."
I am fat - and I do not want to lose weight with me, and so it is all that people try to lose weight. But so it was not always a society of 15 minutes of reading
At the last work, Hangu jokingly called Krupskaya hope for the habit of dressing in strict gray costumes. But now on the screen she was forced to appear in an unusual image - for the broadcasts, Hangu was asked to wear outright bright dresses.
She recalls that she almost fought with the NTV stylist. With the help of a hang wig, a short haircut blonde was made. According to her, they even tried to force the blue lenses to put on - but on this her patience ended, and in the frame she remained with brown eyes.

Talking publicly about sex Elena Hang, who grew up in the Soviet Union, was uncomfortable. She recalls that Leonid Parfyonov even dragged her to this: “He said:“ Look at the camera and say how this part of the body is called, but what is this one. What are you giggling for so many years, and still giggling ”.
Despite the “training”, on the set of the first program, she felt “terribly”. As the host recalls, she did not understand what to expect from the heroes and spectators of the talk show, and she was sure: if someone shouts something “vulgar”, she would be speechless. “I was afraid that when the time came to say the word“ orgasm ”, I would jam me,” said Hanga later.
“Each time, going to the program, I said to myself: it is not me, Lena Hanga stays at home, and a journalist who was hired,” she said in the studio. “He has such a job.”
It was difficult to talk about sex not only leading, but also to the audience. She says that half -hour issues had to be recorded for three hours: "The first one and a half were in milk, because people came to constrained and notorious."
Or maybe he is a hidden exhibitionist? Or is it better - a fan of group sex?
According to Hangi, at that time they and the program with the program seemed to "go along the white snow." On the one hand, there were almost no restrictions on television, on the other hand, there were no guidelines. Other educational programs about sex did not exist (except for the erotic game show “Empire of Passion”, which was conducted by Nikolai Fomenko), Runet was only born (the legendary Chat Chat-the most popular Internet plantation of the 1990s, where they talked on any topics-by that time existed for only a year). “My chief editor,” Hanga recalled, “brought Kamasutra and said:“ Tomorrow broadcast, read from here and prereen. ”
Each program was devoted to one topic. The editors were looking for guests who were ready to come to the studio and talk about personal experience ( they did not want to hire actors fundamentally). Spectators asked the heroes questions. To do this, they were handed out lighters: if you want to ask a question - you raise up the lit light. They also called experts: psychologists and sexologists.
The press was invited to the shooting of the first issues: the start of the Tok show about sex, which were going to show on the federal television channel, was a loud info. The correspondents of the newspaper, describing the process of transmission production, were echidnicha: “Redists buy an erotic press in the root. With a pencil in their hands, announcements about the exchange of wives, the searches of the third and the trade in home sex video. And they look very suspiciously at friends and acquaintances, secretly hoping: “Or maybe he is a hidden exhibitionist ? Or is it better - a fan of group sex?” ”
A random DNA test helped the Japanese to find a family in the United States, he grew up without a father and tried to find him all his life, although he did not have a single clue for 4 minutes of reading
Elena Hanga looked at the process differently-her current show did not seem so frivolous. She says that people who had to sit in the auditorium during the filming were asked to come in strict clothes: “To show that the task of the transfer is not erotic excitement, but the desire to talk on topics that excite everyone, not afraid that someone will get rid of or say vulgarity.”
Behind the scenes there was a joke, as if there were three revolutions in Russia: the first - Gorbachevskaya, the second - Yeltsin, and the third marks the release of the program “About this”.
“A woman has the right to pleasure. And how will she get it if she does not learn to receive it? " -said on the air of the program “About this” the heroine who was called to the studio because of her unusual (according to many guests) point of view. She believed that a woman should study her body in order to know what she likes in sex, and has the right to tell a man how he could give her pleasure. People in the auditorium were indignant: they accused her of holding men for fools, they said that such an approach is "not sex, but masturbation about a man."

Elena Hanga, in turn, was proud that thanks to the program “About this” on television, they almost first spoke about the female orgasm. “Half of the women believed that they were frigid,” she said later. “But in fact, the man simply did not consider it necessary to be interested in what the woman likes.”
Our program will seem inappropriate and shocking to many. But it would be a hypocrisy to pretend that sex is not part of their life
Female orgasm is not the only serious topic that was raised on the air of this current show. During the transfer of homophobia, guests said that they consider homosexuality a disease, and Hanga persistently asked what their position was based on. She openly discussed with lesbians their sex and romantic relationships. One of the issues devoted the sexuality of full women-as the host explains, it was she who made such a decision, because in childhood she herself was complete and complex because of this. And when they recorded a program about sexual education at school, Hanga called her first teacher on the air.
The program about the sexual life of people with the disability of Hang began with the words: “To many, our program will seem inappropriate and shocking. But it would be a hypocrisy to pretend that sex is not part of their life. ” Teenagers from poor provincial cities also came on the air - they talked about how their first experience was and what their sexual education looked like. Hanga also spoke with guests about HIV and prostitution - including male.
The Chinese authorities began to arrest the authors of gay faces, they are struggling with “corruption”, which distracts women from childbirth world 5 minutes of reading
“We were the first to talk about sexual violence at work,” the host recalled . “It was the 1990s, and it was completely normal to force the secretary to go to the bathhouse with you, because you have supposedly negotiations there.”
Another serious achievement of the current show “About this” Hanga believes that he was talking a lot about safe sex: “We have the most reading country in the world, as we love to say. The first flew into space. Behind us Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. At the same time, 30-year-olds, 40-year-old men will never be protected -the heroes of our program said that having sex in a condom is like sniffing a rose in a gas mask. ”
It's a pity that this was not when we were young
Another acute issue that was discussed on the air was sexualized violence . In one of the interviews, the presenter cited as an example the heroine of the current show “About this”, which in childhood was subjected to sexualized violence by the gynecologist. On the air, she explained that she was afraid to stop the doctor, although she realized that he was doing something wrong. “In our country, girls enter into sex life, knowing nothing about it at all, and they are afraid to ask their parents,” the host reasoned.
She very much appreciated this talk show: in her opinion, for many at that time it was the only chance of a frank conversation. For example, for a 19-year-old hero of the release of male virginity: he tried to share his fears and experiences with his mother, but she refused to discuss sex with her son.
Hanga tells how one day during the recording of the release about sex on the phone saw two elderly women in the auditorium, who sat, pressing against each other. The presenter approached them and asked what they think about the program, not hoping for anything good. “They said:“ What a pity, ”Hanga recalled. “What a pity?” I asked. “It is a pity that this was not when we were young.”
The launch of the current show “About this” made the effect of an exploding bomb-and not only in Russia. The New York Times devoted a whole article to him: the newspaper wrote that the Russians only say that about the new show, and first of all because "an honest, lively and impudent discussion about sex - especially with a dark -skinned leading - this is the innovation for culture, which has not yet completely lost seven decades of Soviet puritania."
At the same time, not all viewers were ready to admit that they were watching "about this." The program rating, according to automated anonymous calculations, was 4-5% of the audience. But hundreds of questions - when a person needs to answer what programs he watched - showed a rating at the level of 1%.

Be that as it may, the transfer obviously caused the Russians a storm of emotions. Elena Hanga then recalled: wherever she went, everywhere there were people who longed to share their history with her.
For example, she describes the situation that occurred in 1997. The presenter says that after the recording of the next program, she returned from Ostankino in a taxi in the late evening. Suddenly the driver blocked the doors and began to talk about his problems in sex. “I say: no, I don’t have to tell me it,” Hanga recalled . - And he says: “Are you ready to listen for money, but not for free?” ”
This, according to her, happened not only with strangers, but also in a close circle. “Even the person who was like my uncle came somehow and began to tell me:“ I have my wife there ... ”I:“ Uncle Edik, did you take me from the hospital! How can you tell me this? ” - recalled Hang. - And he: “Well, you are discussing all this in the program!” And I realized that there was no one else to tell him. ”
Nicholas II met a geese in Japan and almost died, he filled a dragon tattoo, and then he was attacked by a samurai society 7 minutes of reading
When Elena Hanga arranged a “straight line” with the audience, she called, as she told, “a serious person”:
- Lenochka, come to us to take a program.
- Exiting is expensive.
- Let it not care about it. I pay for everything.
- Are you new Russian?
- Doesn't matter. It is important to discuss the topic - sex in the zone.
“I was dumbfounded,” she recalled. -We once wanted to make a program on this topic. But we faced facts, and we were scared. And they decided: no, there is a border through which it is impossible to cross. Bye".
Glory had the reverse side. Some friends, as Elena Hang, said that the program was terrible, and stopped communicating with her. When her mother first saw the show, she called Hanga: "Why didn't you say that the program will be about sex?" She retorted : "Why didn't you talk to me about sex 15 years ago?" And the mother replied : "Who knew that it would come in handy?"
The Russian press met the premiere of the program “About this” not at all what the newspaper The New York Times did it. Journalists were mostly unanimous: the program was called the “popularization of various perverts”, wrote that it “promotes adultery, sodomy and porcino sin”, insisted that sex was not subject to discussion on the television screen.
Only “impotants and adolescents” can be interesting to such a current show, the journalist of the “independent newspaper” claimed: “An adult and sexually venerable person prefers to do a job, and not talk.”

They also accused the transfer of what is now called the “propaganda of homosexuality” in the Russian government - although Elena Hang and tried to convince journalists that “if you have no need to have sex with a person of her gender, then, having heard about it on TV, you yourself will not do it.”
The presenter says that she reacted heavily to criticism, and the editors even hid a review of the program from her. If she needed to read something in the newspaper in front of the broadcast, then the team first cut out the articles on the show from there.

The attack was subjected not only to the program, but also by Hanga itself. The “New Gazeta”, for example, called the current show “ridiculous gatherings, for which it is ashamed of the most leading” and wrote that she “holds like a nun who accidentally worshiped nudists”.
There were also questions and comments related to her personal life and appearance. For example, the author of the magazine “7 days” after the filming of one of the issues asked Hang to tell what her first sex was. One of the journalists during the interview said the presenter: "There is an opinion that the black women are more insatiable and passionate in love ..."
On the pages of the Hangu newspapers they called “The most sultry girl of our press”, “The dark -handed beauty of the color of chocolate”, “Exotic cutie”, “Bulbed mulatto”
However, the producer of the program Leonid Parfenov did not hide: he deliberately chose Elena Hangu for the role of the host, counting on a similar effect. “For an exotic program, we needed an exotic presenter,” he explained .
Parfenov also explained his decision by the fact that, in his opinion, black people in the eyes of Russians are associated with something sexy. And he suggested that the blond and blue lenses with Elena Hange in order to "take a step towards the audience."
He himself came up with a joke that was repeated at the beginning of the program - that Elena Hanga is the only one who does not blush, speaking of sex. This phrase was repeated by many journalists and probably remembered thousands of spectators.
Almost immediately after the premiere of the talk show in the State Duma, they started talking about prohibiting it. The reason is the influence of transferring the morality of the population. At the same time, parliamentarians admitted that they themselves were watching the program - but supposedly exclusively on duty. At one of the meetings, a member of the Communist Party faction Tatyana Astrakhankin demanded to call the NTV leadership “to the carpet” so that they would answer before the State Duma for their actions. Her colleague from the LDPR, Alexei Mitrofanov, cut off in response that it was better to invite Elena Hangu to the meeting: "At least it will be fun."

The presenter had his own opinion about the State Duma attempts to protect public morality. In January 1998, she wrote a column for the Moscow News newspaper, where she once began her journalistic career. At that time, in the United States, the main topic was a scandal around President Clinton, who was judged on charges of harassment. In Russia, the State Duma was considering a law that limited the turnover of “sexual products” (that is, primarily pornography).
I am from an orphanage and grateful to him became a veterinarian and a popular blogger and I want to prove to everyone that you do not need to put an end to orphanages for 13 minutes of reading
“An interesting coincidence: while all America argues about how much the sexual behavior of the main official in the country corresponds to public morality, in Russia they again seek to prove that the fault for the corruption of the people lies with films, magazines and television,” Khanga wrote in her column.
She admitted: it used to seem to her that people in unstable post -Soviet Russia are doing anything, but not sex. She thought that basically they simply survive and try to make money. And only after becoming the leading “about this”, she realized what a huge role in the life of Russians is played by sex: he permeates both workers, family, and national relations.
