Human rights activists from the First Department clarify that the case against Popova was opened on July 2, 2025. The reason for the persecution was the online broadcast for the birthday of the DSO, which Popova published on VKontakte on May 16, 2024.

Elena Popova is a former activist of Soldier's mothers of St. Petersburg, she was one of the founders of the movement of conscious refuser in 2013.
