France and Germany plan to send their troops to Ukraine after the end of the conflict, and the Kremlin will not mind. This was stated by US President Donald Trump on Fox News.
“We have European countries - they will come to the fore. Among them, France and Germany, as well as several others, including the UK. They want to place their troops [in Ukraine]. Honestly, I don’t think this will become a problem for Russia, ”he said in an interview with Fox News.
Trump emphasized that he considers such a step possible thanks to the fatigue of the sides from the war: "They are all tired of this, but you never know for sure." At the same time, he eliminated the sending of American troops to Ukraine.
Earlier, on August 17, the US Presidential Special Supervisor Stephen Whitkoff on CNN said that Washington did not plan to attract NATO to protect Ukraine. At the same time, according to him, the United States and European partners can offer a document similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which enshrines the principle of collective defense. How it will work has not yet been explained.
The Russian Foreign Ministry previously stated that any scenario of the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine is categorically unacceptable for Russia and are fraught with a sharp escalation of the conflict. As RIA Novosti notes, such a comment is made “against the backdrop of statements of Western countries about the possibility of sending such a contingent.”
