The Discord messenger reported a leak of users' personal data, including photos of passports and driver's licenses

Representatives of the Discord platform reported a hacker attack on the company that provided the messenger's support service. As a result, user data was compromised: from their email addresses to ID data, the press release says.

It is unclear exactly how many users were affected by the hacker attack. Judging by the statement of service representatives, hackers got into the hands of nicknames, emails, user contact information, IP addresses, correspondence with the support service and the last four digits of bank cards.

Some users also had their ID data stolen—photos of passports or driver's licenses. Their users sent them to support to challenge the failure of automatic age verification. Since this summer, such checks have been mandatory , for example, for residents of the UK. There, the Internet Safety Law came into force in July, after which platforms like Discord were required to introduce age verification. The company claims that a “small number of users” encountered such a leak.

It is alleged that full card numbers, CCV codes and passwords were not among the leaks. The hackers, as stated in the press release, demanded a ransom from the company.

In Russia, Discord was blocked back in October last year. This decision was criticized by both gamers and Z-bloggers. The service is used as a combat command and control tool in both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian Armed Forces.
