Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows 10. About 40% of users worldwide use it

Starting Tuesday, October 14, Microsoft will no longer support the Windows 10 operating system. Users will no longer receive free software and security updates.

The operating system itself will not stop working, but due to the end of support it may become more vulnerable to viruses and hacker attacks. Windows 10 was released in 2015 and, despite the release of Windows 11 in 2021, remains quite popular. According to Statcounter, as of July 2025, more than 40% of users were using it.

Microsoft offers essentially two options to private users. One of them is to upgrade to Windows 11: upgrade the OS on your current computer or upgrade the device itself.

Another option is to subscribe to the so-called Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. It will allow you to continue receiving the most important security updates for another year - until October 2026. For private users, the subscription costs $30, for corporations - $61 per device. It is valid for a maximum of three years after Windows 10 support ends.
