Russian Z-channels published a video of a drone strike on a UN convoy: footage on the morning of October 15 appeared on the Telegram channel “From Mariupol to the Carpathians,” associated with Russian UAV operators in the Kherson direction. The day before, the Ukrainian side reported the shelling of trucks; the UN stated that this could be considered a war crime.
The footage shows one of the drones hitting a truck, after which a fire starts. The authors of the Telegram channel claim that the attack was carried out on equipment that was carrying “dual-use cargo”:
“Reconnaissance revealed the movement of dual-use equipment in time, and within a few minutes crews of FPV drones of the Dnepr military unit were working along the convoy. As soon as the leading and trailing vehicles were knocked out, the artillery of the 18th OA GV “Dnepr” began to work,” the post says.
“From Mariupol to the Carpathians” writes that the attack on the convoy was carried out near the village of Belozerka. The Ukrainian authorities reported the same thing the day before. The Insider geolocated the exact location of the impact - on the highway about a kilometer from the village. It is about 10 km west of Kherson.
Even the day before, the authors of the Telegram channel accused the Ukrainian side of the fact that the passage of this convoy of trucks was not agreed upon: “All humanitarian cargo through the UN and the Red Cross is agreed upon between the parties. And then some roosters once again decided to cheat on the fool, not FARTANULO,” says one of the posts.
“Any movement of vehicles will be considered a legitimate purpose. All critical infrastructure is a legitimate target,” said another post accompanying a video of the strike.
The fact that the video shows an attack specifically on a convoy of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is confirmed upon closer frame-by-frame examination. On the truck that the drone hits, the inscription WFP is visible - an abbreviation for the World Food Programme. The abbreviation UN, the symbol of the United Nations, is also printed on top of the trucks.
The attack on the trucks was reported the day before, on October 14, by the head of the Kherson OVA, Alexander Prokudin. One of the four trucks burned down, another was seriously damaged. There were no casualties.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Matthias Schmale called the deliberate attack on humanitarian workers and humanitarian facilities a gross violation of international humanitarian law. He stressed that this could be considered a war crime.
